2014 Grand Depart – Saturday 5th July 2014
The Tour de France is coming to Yorkshire and it’s less than a year to go. On Saturday 5th July over 200 professional cyclists will roll out of Leeds for the Grand Depart. The route of Stage 1 will take them through the historic towns of Otley, Ilkley and Skipton before crossing into North Yorkshire and taking in some classic Dales countryside.
The riders will pass towns and villages such as Grassington, Kettlewell, Hawes, Reeth and Leyburn before heading down Wensleydale, through Masham and our own city of Ripon and with a stage finish in the spa town of Harrogate.
Along the way the riders will tackle 3 major climbs, Kidstones between Buckden and Aysgarth, the Buttertubs the longest and highest of the 3 between Hawes and Muker and Grinton Bank between Reeth and Leyburn.
There’s a very detailed description of Stage 1 on the VeloViewer Blog with information on all the climbs including length and maximum gradient.
Below is the route map for Stage 1.
